Public Hearing Wednesday May 6th at 6:00pm at 22 Washington Ave.
There are several items on the agenda including a water and sewer rate increase. The proposed increase is $1.96 a quarter water and $21.44 for sewer which would be $23.40 a quarter so the new bill would be around $410 quarterly.
Here's a link to the agenda packet with several public hearings which also includes the communications tower, Fire Department Building and general budget (with no proposed increase) https://colonialbeachva.gov/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Agenda/_05062026-235
Concerns I have regarding water sewer increases:
The rates were raised by $26 a quarter last year 2025.
A $30 trash tax was added to your bill in 2023.
Up to a $160k discount on water sewer connection fees was given to the boardwalk developer which was not approved by council. (see below)
We need a full accounting of who is and is not paying for water and sewer in town before we can justify raising rates yet again. I've been told there could be many apartments owners not paying their fair share (including short term rentals and accessory dwellings).
Hiring a 3rd party contractor to run our Waste Water Treatment Plant was touted as a huge win for our town but cost went up dramatically since this happened.
Millions of dollars of water meters sitting unused with no incentive to conserve water and sewer.
If you want to come speak at 22 Washington Ave you are able sign up before the hearing. If you want to voice your concerns but can't make it in person you can email town council at TownCouncil@ColonialBeachVA.gov

Constituents have stated that Council must have voted for the huge boardwalk connection fee discounts. Below proves Council did not vote for any discounts. The original contract stated they would pay full price.
